Sacramento Homeless Connect

2009 Sacramento Homeless Connect

At any one time in Sacramento, 2800 people are experiencing homelessness.

While there are many dedicated people working to create more affordable housing, mental health services, and other support systems, homelessness has been increasing. In this tough economy, budgets for programs are being slashed, and we are seeing more people hit the streets.

Sacramento Homeless Connect is a project run through City, County, nonprofit, and business support in the area. Organizers have leveraged over 50 agencies and 400 volunteers in the coordination of an annual one day, one-stop shop resource and service fair for people experiencing homelessness or seeking ways to prevent the loss of their home.

“Thank you so much for your kindness and help today. It was so nice to be in such a different atmosphere and have access to so many things I have been trying to access for a long time.”
-Homeless Guest

“It was a very rewarding experience. Volunteering at such an event gave me new insight into what it means to be homeless. I am very happy to have been of assistance and will continue to volunteer in the future.”
- Volunteer

“This event brings the community together to assist our homeless citizens. We will offer a full range of services and support to hundreds of homeless people through hundreds of community volunteers. This hand-to-hand assistance will positively impact everyone involved.”
-Tim Brown, Director of Ending Chronic Homelessness Initiative
